your teeth, Lena!" called Mum from downstairs.
"I'm
doing it, I'm doing it, give me a chance!" Lena mumbled.
How
did her mum know she wasn't going to bother? She snarled at her
freckled face in the bathroom cabinet mirror and checked her teeth.
She opened the cabinet to grab the toothpaste, piled a load on the brush and shoved it in her mouth for a quick
ten-second whiz, she shut the mirrored door again.
Something
was there.
“Agh!”
She flung herself around to look behind her.
She’d
seen it in the mirror. A flash of blue, there one instant and gone
the next.
There
was nothing there now. She frowned.
“Imagining
stuff, Lena, get a grip!”
